ᐅ What features did you include in your house, and what did you decide to leave out?

Hello,

When planning and building a house, you focus on the essentials and the budget. Some wishes get dropped along the way. But certain small luxuries or nice features are important to you, even if they are not strictly necessary, and you end up including them anyway.

For us, a heated conservatory was an unattainable dream. However, we treated ourselves to tiled, walk-in showers, even though they take up more space.

I would love to hear what you have given up and what you managed to include.

Best regards

Haha, that might be true, or it didn’t matter to us at first since no one could wake up anyway. We actually have wall panels installed. But otherwise, you can hear everything from the basement up to the upper floor here. Although – we can also hear our neighbors in their basement when we are on our upper floor... So, we are also opting for high-quality fittings compared to what we have now.

You can hear your neighbors in THEIR basement when you are in YOUR upper floor??? Wow, I hope the house was really cheap! Is it a terraced house / row house???

That's right. An affordable developer-built terraced house. We were able to learn here what we would do differently. For that price, we wouldn't even be able to get a plot of land here now.

Well, if it was affordable, it was a good start. And learning from it is also valuable.

@Weimy: Hello, I think for over 200 sqm (2150 sq ft) for four people, you can safely do without a basement. What do you mean by many glass surfaces – lots of windows, right? Or do you mean a glass kitchen countertop, a glass bathtub, or interior walls made of glass?

Hello,

I probably wasn’t clear enough—lots of windows and the large conservatory that is integrated into the living room.

Almost all the windows will be floor-to-ceiling, so lots of glass... we have also planned many storage rooms. The space under the stairs and the attic are also planned as additional storage. I hope I won’t miss having a basement... I still have some concerns when I think about drying laundry in winter...
