ᐅ What features did you include in your house, and what did you decide to leave out?

Hello,
When planning and building a house, you focus on the essentials and the budget. Some wishes get dropped along the way. But certain small luxuries or nice features are important to you, even if they are not strictly necessary, and you end up including them anyway.
For us, a heated conservatory was an unattainable dream. However, we treated ourselves to tiled, walk-in showers, even though they take up more space.
I would love to hear what you have given up and what you managed to include.
Best regards

I agree with Elina and Bautraum2015, I also find roller shutters unattractive. But we still have them because we appreciate their benefits. Although the insulation effect in winter is more of a wishful thinking, right? Our builders were rather skeptical about that. So far, we can only share our experience with an older building, and there it actually provided some extra insulation during winter.

MünchnerKindl8 Feb 2015 16:09Hello,
an interesting topic, especially when reading about it after the decision has been made. It really makes me realize what we treated ourselves to.
What we treated ourselves to:
- Rimless toilets
- Double garage (we debated for a long time whether to build it later)
- Basement (for us it’s part of the package – and it will also house the essential sauna)
- Two walk-in showers
- Quiet location
- New kitchen
What we gave up:
- Close proximity to the city
- A larger plot of land
- A different exterior color
- Some features that would have been too expensive for us at the moment, which we plan to add later, for example, electric motors for the garage doors

I really like the exterior color.
We’ve decided just yesterday to get an amazing room-sealed wood stove... as for the exhaust system, we’re still working on the details.

MünchnerKindl8 Feb 2015 16:27Once again, autocorrect kicked in; of course, I meant the house color.
What kind of wood stove are you thinking about?
In our case, the first modification for the Lotos M3 was needed just 6 months after the renovation 8-).
We were cautious during the renovation because we wanted to avoid any unexpected issues later on.
When everything was finished and the first winter approached, I really wished for a soapstone stove. Done and done. Then the chimney sweep showed up and said, "Noooooooo" – no way to clean the chimney from the roof – absolutely impossible. Apparently, the previous owners hadn’t had the chimney outlet properly reinstalled when the roof was replaced. You wouldn’t have wanted to hear my swearing.
So in November, I begged the roofer to fix it. On November 10th, everything was set up, the chimney sweep came on November 11th, the stove arrived on November 14th, and the sweep came back on November 15th.
But now the stove is on every evening, as long as the weather allows.
That’s the nicest luxury for me, a cold person, and of course for the dog who has a permanent spot in front of it.
