ᐅ What features did you include in your house, and what did you decide to leave out?

Hello,

When planning and building a house, you focus on the essentials and the budget. Some wishes get dropped along the way. But certain small luxuries or nice features are important to you, even if they are not strictly necessary, and you end up including them anyway.

For us, a heated conservatory was an unattainable dream. However, we treated ourselves to tiled, walk-in showers, even though they take up more space.

I would love to hear what you have given up and what you managed to include.

Best regards

If I do a major renovation in thirty years, the staircase will be relocated. Until then, I'll be annoyed by it! :-P

Or rather, I'll just have to live with it.

@Bautraum2015: Oh yes, I’ve read the thread. I definitely would have rotated the staircase as well!! Thumbs up!

@torsan: Take comfort, it surely has some advantages too. I noticed this a lot when planning the house: every decision has its cost, and for every (subjective?) benefit, you accept a (possibly smaller) drawback.

Oh, I wouldn’t be too upset about that. I see it more as a minor detail, and no one who comes in will ever notice or complain about it.

@Bautraum2015: This rubber anchor stair is a bit unsettling. When you stand on it and quickly squat down and stand up again, the step swings quite a lot. So you really have to trust the engineering; it feels strange at first.

Wow, I really like that... it adds a nice upward flow... it has something special!

@Bautraum2015: hehe

@torsan: By the way, when I was a teenager, a friend of mine had parents who built a new house. The wooden staircase started immediately to the right as you entered, making a quarter turn, and then went straight up. I liked it back then. I can’t really say why. When she came down from upstairs, she could stand on the warm wooden step and open the door for me.

It also looked quite nice when standing in front of the entrance looking in – the staircase seemed to come toward you, almost welcoming you, and you could look up to the next floor. It had a welcoming feel.
