Since our prefabricated house will be assembled in the coming weeks and we will be doing the painting ourselves, the question arises about the suitable ceiling finish.
So far, we have always had wallpapered ceilings, but I have now heard about textured paint that is said to be very easy to apply.
What are your experiences and tips for designing the ceilings in our house?
Best regards, Silke

I have a stretch ceiling with a film finish. It looks amazing. Of course, you can’t do this throughout the entire house because it’s relatively expensive, but it works well in the living room. Your textured paint is a real dust magnet and will look dirty after just a few years.

nordanney22 May 2013 14:43We have rolled plaster on the walls, which looks great and doesn’t attract dust (and is really easy to apply). For the ceiling, however, I would recommend a smooth/flat finish. We had the ceiling smoothly plastered and simply painted white.
What kind of costs can be expected for a foil stretch ceiling per square meter, and how is it installed? Does it require a professional, or can it be done as a DIY project?
I’m considering this for our kitchen, as we have white lacquered cabinet fronts there. A white “lacquered” ceiling would harmonize the overall look. The question is: Is this suitable for a kitchen? We will have recessed ceiling spotlights—do special precautions need to be taken?
