Hello everyone, I have some IKEA Besta furniture with a high-gloss lacquer finish and I’m looking for recommendations on proper care.
Specifically, I’m interested in which cleaning products to use to maintain the shine without damaging the coating. I’d also like to know how often the furniture should be maintained and if there are any particular techniques to prevent or remove scratches or streaks on the high-gloss lacquer.
Maybe there are also experiences with home remedies or special care products that work especially well for this type of furniture. I’m looking forward to your tips and opinions!

Thanks in advance for all the great advice!
That sounds very practical to me. What about using furniture polish? I ask because I’ve read that some polishes are not suitable for high-gloss paint or can even cause damage.
Are there any experiences regarding whether it’s better to avoid them, and if mild polishes actually offer any benefit?

I often just used a soft microfiber cloth with some lukewarm water and added a drop of dish soap if needed.

I have had rather poor experiences with polishes on high-gloss paint.
They often leave a sort of film that tends to streak or dull the shine. Therefore, I recommend cleaning only with water and mild soapy water, followed by drying with a cloth.
It is best to avoid scratches, as repairing them is difficult.

I'll casually jump right into the topic 😄
I would say high-gloss lacquer can be a bit sensitive. Polishes containing wax or oil can sometimes dull the beautiful shine or leave a sticky residue.
From my experience: avoid polishes unless they are specifically recommended for high-gloss finishes. A microfiber cloth and warm water are usually enough.
But hey, for extra shine, you could occasionally try a special furniture care spray made for high gloss, testing it first in an inconspicuous spot.

Are there any experiences here about whether it’s better to avoid it, and if mild polishes actually offer any benefits?I think it’s great that you’re questioning this, as I was uncertain myself.
In my case, I initially tried a special polishing cloth designed for high-gloss furniture, which really gave a great short-term effect. However, over time I noticed that the finish became a bit dull in some areas.
By now, I avoid polishes altogether and rely more on regular cleaning with a microfiber cloth and a mild cleaning agent.
Regarding scratches: sometimes very fine, non-abrasive polishing cloths formulated for high-gloss surfaces helped me. But this is rarely necessary and should be done carefully.
Maybe something like "gentle care" could be the best motto here.
