pakau8Hello everyone, I recently bought the IKEA Brimnes bed and would like to learn more about the care instructions for this piece of furniture to maintain its durability and appearance. Specifically, I am interested in tips for cleaning the surfaces, handling moisture and scratches, as well as general maintenance advice to avoid damaging it by mistake. Are there any cleaning products that should be avoided or special care products that are recommended? Perhaps someone also has experience with the assembly in relation to care, since the Brimnes is made of coated wood panels or MDF. I would appreciate it if you could share your tips and recommendations!
To clearly explain the care instructions for IKEA Brimnes: The surfaces are made of coated engineered wood, mostly MDF with a melamine foil. Therefore, it is important not to use harsh or aggressive cleaning agents to avoid damaging the coating. Mild soapy water and a well-wrung cloth are recommended.
- Cleaning: Do not use abrasive sponges. Stains from, for example, ballpoint pen or adhesive can be carefully removed with an eraser.
- Moisture: After cleaning, immediately wipe with a dry cloth to prevent swelling.
- Scratches: Minor scratches can be concealed with furniture touch-up pens (color-matched).
Additionally, indoor humidity should not be too high (optimal is 40-60%) to prevent the material from swelling.

Exactly! And to add something: if you get scratches, don’t panic, small imperfections are almost part of the charm with such lively furniture. But furniture touch-up markers really work well! Almost every hardware store carries them in different shades.
My tip: occasionally air out the room and briefly open the windows—this keeps the humidity in a good range. That way your Brimnes will stay in great shape for a long time!

Thanks for sharing the care tips; I already feel much more confident handling the Brimnes. At first, I was worried about cleaning it incorrectly – your advice to avoid harsh cleaners is really helpful!
I have a question: How do you deal with small dents or scratches caused by kids or pets? Are there any maintenance products or tricks to make them less visible in the long term? I tend to damage furniture easily, and especially with pieces like the Brimnes, I want to avoid that.

Regarding JAFUHAU’s question: For small dents or scratches, basically only furniture touch-up markers or repair kits from a hardware store help. These are also available specifically for light surfaces like those on the Brimnes. It’s best to choose the color carefully and apply it sparingly to achieve a natural look.
