ᐅ What can I do if the doors of Ikea BESTA cabinets constantly rattle?

Hello everyone,
Some time ago, I assembled two IKEA Besta cabinet units with doors. Unfortunately, the doors have been rattling continuously for a while now when lightly bumped or when there is a draft. The noise seems to be caused by too much play in the hinges or a lack of damping. The doors do close properly but do not sit firmly against the cabinet frame, which causes an annoying rattling when moved.
I have already adjusted the hinges slightly and tested whether reinforcing the seal on the frame improves the situation. However, the problem persists.
My question to the community: What can I do if the doors of IKEA Besta cabinets keep rattling continuously? Are there proven solutions or specific replacement parts that can reliably solve this issue? I look forward to concrete tips and shared experiences.

Such an annoying rattling! 😀
I completely removed the hinges, cleaned them, and lightly lubricated them with some silicone spray. Then I adjusted everything again – since then, it’s been quiet. It was a bit of work but definitely worth it!
Don’t be afraid, anyone can do it. If you want, get in touch and I can help you with tips for removal.

The repeated rattling of IKEA Besta doors often results from excessive play in the hinge mechanism or insufficient damping at the door stop.
First, I recommend a thorough inspection of the hinges. Besta hinges are usually made of metal with built-in plastic dampers. Over time, the plastic parts can wear out, deform, or shift out of position, causing unwanted movement.
The hinges can be adjusted in three axes: vertically, horizontally, and in depth. It should be checked whether a slight adjustment of the door improves the closing pressure so that the door fits snugly without sticking.
Furthermore, many versions have integrated dampers. If these are defective, the only solution is to replace the affected hinges or individual dampers. Replacement parts are available from IKEA, but often it makes sense to retrofit additional dampers, for example, self-adhesive rubber bumpers that are placed offset within the door frame.
Another factor is the quality of the cabinet frame installation. Small distortions caused by uneven floors can also lead to rattling. If in doubt, shims can be used to adjust the alignment and achieve a perfect fit for the door.
Question: Do you have the exact hinge model or have you made any special modifications to the cabinet? That could help provide more precise advice.

The hinges are standard soft-close ones from the IKEA BESTA range, type "Hettich Sensys 8645" or similar (according to the label). No modifications were made to the cabinet; everything is assembled in the original way. The rattling mainly occurs when the doors are moved very slightly— even light drafts cause the noise.
I suspect softening the door stops would be a good idea, but I haven’t tried felt pads or bumpers yet because I don’t want to change the appearance. Are there alternative solutions that are invisible and effectively prevent the rattling?
Hello Jeson,
There are certainly subtle solutions to reduce the rattling noise of IKEA BESTA doors without affecting their appearance. Here is a structured approach:
- Check all hinge parameters (clamping force and alignment) – often a minimal adjustment is enough.
- Replace the existing dampers with identical ones (soft-close systems usually use interchangeable parts).
- Invisible dampers: There are special small silicone buffers that can be attached in the hinge area or on the inside edge of the door at the back. These are transparent and hardly noticeable.
- Alternatively: A thin strip of transparent self-adhesive silicone tape (similar to edge protectors) on the inside edges of the door frame can make the door stops softer without any visual drawbacks.
To summarize: You can often fix the rattling with small, transparent dampers or silicone strips without compromising the look.
All you need is a fine adjustment screwdriver and a bit of patience! If you want, I can provide more details on recommended products and installation.
