Hello everyone, I recently started having a problem with my Ikea Hemnes sideboard where some of the drawers stick and are very difficult to pull out. This not only affects functionality but also makes every opening frustrating. I have the impression that the drawer slides are not running smoothly, or that something might be misaligned or blocked.

Before I start dismantling everything randomly, I would like to know: What can I do specifically if Ikea Hemnes drawers are sticking? Are there common causes like incorrect assembly, material swelling due to moisture, or issues with the slides? What steps do you recommend to identify the cause myself and then fix it effectively?

Thanks for any tips and experiences!

If the drawers are sticking, first remove all drawers completely and check the drawer slides. Often, gently cleaning the slides with a dry cloth helps. Sometimes screws are loose; tighten them again. If wood swelling is an issue, sanding down tight spots can help.

Hello, I see the need for a structured approach here:

- First, remove all drawers completely to gain unobstructed access to the drawer slides.
- Check the drawer slides themselves for dirt, debris, and damage. You can often feel bulges that cause unpleasant sticking.
- Was the furniture placed in a damp room? HEMNES models are made of solid wood, and moisture can cause the material to swell, especially at the edges.
- Inspect the fastening screws, as the problem is often caused by tilted or slightly misaligned slides.
- If necessary, gently sand the affected areas with fine sandpaper to improve drawer movement.
- Finally, you can apply a wax-free product (such as furniture wax or a specialized lubricant for wooden cabinets) to the drawer slides to reduce friction.

I also recommend reassembling everything after cleaning and adjusting, then opening and closing the drawers several times to check if the problem is resolved.

Some users mention that with IKEA HEMNES, the drawer installation does not always exactly follow the instructions, so minor adjustments often make a difference.

That is a very well observed point!

From my own experience, I can add: Ikea HEMNES drawers use simple metal or wooden runners, which can shift or get dirty over time. If the drawer is sticking, it is advisable to completely remove it and check the runners for the correct angle and firm fitting.

Sometimes the small plastic pieces (stoppers or guide elements) on the sides are broken or displaced.

If the wood has swollen slightly due to moisture, you can gently sand the inner edges of the drawer. Be very careful to remove only a small amount, as the design requires precise dimensions.

Finally, also check if the drawer is inserted correctly – sometimes it takes a bit of fiddling to properly engage the drawer into the runners so it slides smoothly.

For me, this approach has often helped overall.
