ᐅ How to level a concrete staircase?

Hello,

As mentioned above, we need to level our concrete stair treads by about 4cm (1.5 inches) each. Plus a bit more on the tread depth. There are 45 steps in total! Vinyl planks will be glued onto the steps.

The site manager says that a screed would be ideal, but that is probably also the most expensive option. A friend who works with screed, but not on stairs, said this could also be done using a quartz sand leveling compound, and then I read online that cement mortar can also be used. I also came across the term “synthetic resin mortar.”

Now, to the experts on this forum: what is the correct approach and method?

We already have a quote for screed: €3000 plus an accelerator at €10 per step.

Thank you very much in advance.

I’m really not handy with something like this. But fortunately, our current neighbor is a self-employed flooring installer and does it for a very fair price.

He doesn’t want to do the height adjustment though?

Regarding the material question, it’s all the same to me. A few bags of screed cost about €50 (around $55) at the hardware store. The work is the problem.

Use fast-drying screed, material costs around 150 Euros. Formwork installation is the most time-consuming part but can be done quite well by yourself. I estimate about 3 days of labor for one person. The total cost should not exceed 1200 Euros.

I am only concerned with which is the optimal solution:

Screed or sand and stable leveling compound

I only know the first solution; I have never seen or heard of the second one.
