Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a Metod kitchen island and am now preparing for assembly. Since I want to connect several modules and cabinets, I have a question: What assembly tips are there for an easy and secure setup of Metod kitchen islands? I am especially interested in advice regarding the connecting fittings, the correct alignment of the individual components, and the principles of stabilization. It would also be helpful to hear about experiences with assembly on uneven floors or in small spaces.

I want to make the assembly as efficient as possible and avoid mistakes, so I appreciate precise tips or common errors that beginners should avoid. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

my tip: Always start by sorting and organizing all the parts, then roughly align the cabinets and connect them using the joining fittings. For fine adjustment, there are usually screws on the side panels.

Don’t forget to secure the kitchen island to the wall or floor if possible – this greatly increases stability.

I understand that assembling Metod kitchen islands can seem a bit overwhelming at first. What helped me was reading the assembly instructions step by step and not rushing.

What I would also recommend: If you are working on uneven floors, take your time to level everything properly. A spirit level is your best friend. Sometimes it also makes sense to use small plastic feet or shims to get the island perfectly level.

Additionally: Try not to assemble the island alone, especially with the larger modules, as working with two people is often easier and faster.

It’s interesting how often “stabilization” is mentioned here, as if Ikea hasn’t already accounted for that technically. Let’s be honest: The METOD kitchen cabinets are well-designed, but a kitchen island only becomes stable through strong connections between all the modules, not just by screwing on some random strip.

I have some reservations about that. Not every kitchen island is right next to a wall. In those cases, you need to use other methods. A small tip: use internal connectors between the cabinets to hide the screws and achieve a clean look that also adds strength. Additionally, fastening the countertop across the modules significantly reinforces the entire structure.

Also, using metal brackets for extra stabilization usually saves you from unpleasant surprises later on if the island ever starts to wobble.

In summary, I would like to add some general tips based on my experience with Metod kitchen islands that I find particularly helpful:

- Start with careful planning of the placement and check the floor levelness using a spirit level and a straightedge.
- Sort all fittings and screws before assembly to avoid mix-ups.
- Join the individual modules with the designated connection screws before attaching the countertop – this way you can still make adjustments if needed.
- Make full use of the adjustable feet on the Metod cabinets to compensate for any floor unevenness.
- For the countertop: If you are installing a solid countertop, ensure it rests on all modules and secure it carefully with brackets from underneath.

Finally, it is advisable to proceed patiently during assembly and not rush – this helps avoid mistakes that would require extensive corrections later.

Based on extensive research and personal experience, I recommend the following structured approach for assembling a Metod kitchen island:

- Preparation: Check and organize all parts, including screws, nuts, and connectors, before starting the assembly.
- Cabinet assembly: Securely screw the modules together using connectors. Typically, special fasteners designed to fit into pre-drilled holes are used.
- Leveling: Adjust the adjustable feet so that the base is perfectly horizontal. Using a spirit level on multiple planes is ideal.
- Worktop: Only after the modules are fully and securely connected should the worktop be placed and fixed to the substructure. For kitchen islands, it is usually best to screw it from underneath to ensure long-lasting stability.
- Fastening/Anchoring: If there is no wall to stabilize the island, it should be secured against tipping by adding brackets or anchors under the worktop.

This procedure has proven effective to ensure a smooth and safe assembly while minimizing the need for later adjustments.
