Hello everyone,

I’m moving into a rental apartment soon and plan to set up furniture from the IKEA Brimnes series. Since I don’t want or am not allowed to damage the walls, I’m looking for installation tips that are especially suitable for rental properties.

I’m particularly interested in secure mounting options that leave little to no marks but still ensure stability – especially for tall cabinets. Perhaps there are also clever alternatives to traditional wall plugs or advice on combining furniture pieces to keep everything steady.

Does anyone have experience or recommendations that are both practical and rental-friendly?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

If you like, I can gladly prepare an overview of recommended fasteners and their advantages and disadvantages. Do you need that?

That would be great, thank you! I’m especially interested in effective solutions for drywall walls, as the apartment has those. Which mounting methods are reliable and reversible?

Also, are there any specific tips to minimize damage during disassembly? I want to avoid any issues with the landlord in the end.

I am particularly interested in good solutions for drywall walls

For drywall walls, I recommend:

- Cavity anchors or toggle anchors, as they distribute weight better and don’t rely solely on the surface material.
- Furniture fasteners using so-called "Molly bolts," which are specially designed for drywall.
- Alternatively, tension rods or furniture wedges that do not require direct wall penetration.

For removal: Carefully take out anchors set inside the wall. If needed, loosen the paint around the edges gently with a clean blade, then apply and smooth filler. After drying, touch up with suitable wall paint.

Important: Avoid making the mounting too heavy to limit the load on the drywall panel.

I completely understand! Here’s my insider tip: use self-adhesive furniture protectors, like adhesive strips or similar hook-and-loop systems, which are easy to remove and leave no residue.

If you do need to drill, just document everything – take photos before and after installation and after removal. That will protect you.

And don’t worry, with a bit of planning, Brimnes can work perfectly well in rental apartments – stable, secure, and removable. Try using good tools and feel free to explore alternative mounting options!

I personally often use clamp mounts or so-called "furniture butlers" (wall stoppers) without drilling – great for rental apartments! 😊

I completely agree! Especially the "furniture butlers" or even protective pads come highly recommended. They provide excellent stability and are very easy to install.

I once had a BRIMNES bed that I secured with tension rods between floor and ceiling – no damage to the wall and everything was rock solid!

So: Just be brave, give it a try, and your apartment stays intact!

If you need any tips on installation, feel free to ask again.
