I am planning to assemble my IKEA Metod kitchen myself soon and wanted to ask for assembly tips in this forum that primarily make the process quick and safe. What should I pay attention to during the preparation? Are there any tools or techniques you highly recommend to reduce working time while ensuring the stability of the cabinets? I am also interested in your methods for mounting the cabinets to the wall, as secure fastening is very important to me. I would appreciate detailed advice and personal experiences that go beyond the standard instructions.

Additionally, regarding assembly, I recommend using ratchet straps when screwing the cabinet components together. These help hold the parts in place while you insert the screws. This is especially useful for the back panels, which then fit more securely and won’t slip.

It’s also advisable to initially tighten the screws only lightly to allow for fine adjustments later. Only once everything fits properly should you fully tighten them.

I keep wondering if IKEA’s instructions are deliberately made so long to confuse us...

For wall mounting, I always use a spirit level and a good drill with a hammer function to ensure everything is securely fixed.
Of course, the floor and wall need to be level, but in my opinion, the importance of absolute precision during alignment is sometimes overrated.

The Metod units are designed so that small deviations can be compensated with adjustable feet. For me, speed is much more important – otherwise, the assembly takes forever.

I have always taken safety very seriously. Even if it sometimes takes longer, it is important to me that all cabinets are securely mounted to the wall and that there is no risk due to insufficient fastening.

Recently, I experienced a situation where inadequate fastening of cabinets led to a minor accident – something I do not want to risk again.

I can only agree with your advice regarding the type of wall anchors and precise measurements. Also: Always have a second person assist when lifting. This not only prevents injuries but also helps with accurate alignment.

Thank you all for the tips so far; they have been very helpful! I hadn’t considered the advice about using ratchet straps before.

I have one more question regarding tools: Is a standard 12V cordless drill sufficient, or is it better to go for an 18V model to assemble the Metod units more efficiently? I’m also concerned about whether the lower voltage drill has enough power for screwing the parts together, especially for the back panels and when drilling for wall mounting.

Additionally, I would like to know how you ensure proper alignment when assembling the base cabinets so that they fit correctly afterward and don’t require rework.
