Hello everyone, I’m starting a discussion on the topic "What are common assembly mistakes with Ikea Metod cabinets and how can I avoid them?"

I’m mainly referring to typical errors that often occur during the installation of kitchen cabinets from the Metod series. I’m interested in common pitfalls such as mixing up parts, mistakes in aligning the cabinets, incorrect screwing, or issues with fixing them to the wall.

I understand that there are always challenges with self-assembly, but it would be great if you could share from your experience which mistakes you find most frequent and, above all, how to best avoid them.

Are there any tips regarding tool selection, assembly techniques, or procedures that have helped you?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

People, motivation before assembly is really important! 👍 I recently worked on a Metod project, and cutting the countertop to fit the stove was pure stress for me. My tip: Always check before assembly if everything fits the intended connections – electricity, water, drainage.

Can this not also be included in the topic "Assembly errors with Ikea Metod"? If planning is not done properly, errors during assembly are almost inevitable.

100% agree. Studying a good technical drawing or manual beforehand is essential! Anyone who plans carelessly will pay for it later with rework or unsatisfactory results.

One more thing: If you work in teams, assign tasks wisely. One person measures, another screws – it saves nerves!

I would like to share a very simple but often overlooked tip: Before attaching cabinets to the wall, make sure to check if the wall is even and suitable for the anchors.

Often, I see people start drilling without using any tool to test the surface. The result: cabinets that wobble or hang unevenly.

A small spirit level and a test drill hole can work wonders. This saves time on adjustments later.

In short:

- Always sort components before installation
- Do not overtighten screws
- Install hinges according to the instructions
- Attach the back panel first to ensure stability

This helps to avoid many mistakes.

Here is a brief experience report from my area:

I once had a moment where I tried to align cabinets on uneven tiles – it really tested my patience. My advice: compensate for floor irregularities first, for example with wooden shims or adjustable feet, before assembling the cabinets permanently.

Exactly! It happens so often that you can avoid this if you do these small checks at the beginning.

And remember: having fun during the assembly is also part of the process 😄

One final tip from my side:

It is important to avoid placing screws too close to the edge of the carcass. Ikea provides certain minimum distances for this. If screws are positioned too near the edge, the material can split, especially with particleboard.

Additionally, using screws with a self-drilling tip can help protect the material and make assembly easier in some connections.

Overall, it’s the small details that reduce the risk of assembly errors. Thanks for the friendly and cooperative discussion here!
