Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the installation of my Ikea Metod kitchen and wondering about common potential issues that can arise during the process and how to best avoid them. Since it is a modular system, I have read that problems often occur during measuring and leveling, which can ultimately affect the functionality or the overall appearance of the kitchen.

Specifically, I am interested in:
- What are typical pitfalls during installation (e.g., assembling cabinets, fronts, countertops)?
- Are there frequent mistakes in the preparation phase, such as inaccurate leveling or incorrect fixing points?
- How can misalignments be prevented that later cause problems with closing doors or drawers?

I would appreciate any experience-based advice, practical tips, or recommendations on tools and procedures that help achieve a clean and functional result. Thanks in advance!

A common mistake during the Metod assembly is inaccurate measuring before installing the base cabinets. If the base is already uneven, all the upper units won’t fit properly. Therefore, I recommend using a spirit level and a laser distance meter to be precise down to every millimeter.

Also, make sure to assemble and align the cabinets loosely first before permanently screwing them together. This way, small deviations can still be corrected.

The screws from the Ikea set are solid, but at points of high stress, using high-quality replacement screws can help increase stability.

I remember feeling quite unsure at times while assembling my kitchen, especially when adjusting the countertop. What helped me was working systematically and taking regular breaks to keep a clear overview.

Mistakes I made included installing the doors incorrectly, causing the hinges not to function properly. I strongly recommend following the installation manual step by step and hanging the doors only at the very end.

And don’t get discouraged if something isn’t perfect—it's easy to make fine adjustments with Metod.

There are several common sources of errors that are often overlooked when installing an Ikea Metod kitchen:

- First and foremost: The wall on which the kitchen is to be mounted is rarely perfectly straight. Always perform a precise check of the wall for irregularities using a spirit level. This greatly affects the alignment of all upper and lower cabinets.

- Cabinet assembly:
- Make sure to use battens or spacers exactly as needed to compensate for any unevenness in the floor.
- Before screwing anything together, temporarily fit all shelves, side panels, and back panels to check the fit.

- Fronts and hinges:
- It is recommended to hang the doors only after the cabinets are fully assembled. The hinges offer some adjustment, but large misalignments cannot be corrected.
- Use the supplied adjustment tool to fine-tune the doors. Without precise adjustment, there will be friction or the doors may not close properly.

- Worktop:
- Also pay attention to thermal expansion; it’s best to include expansion gaps during installation.
- Always protect worktops during cleaning and cutting to avoid damage later on.

Have you measured the wall precisely beforehand, and are all cabinets level? If you like, I can send you a detailed installation step-by-step guide that worked very well for me.

Make sure to install the support battens for the wall cabinets perfectly vertical. If they are slanted, the cabinets will hang crookedly.

Also, only tighten all screws by hand at first and fully tighten them at the end. This helps prevent tension in the structure.

Hey, great project, good luck with it! 😄

One thing I really underestimated was the correct procedure for the drawers – often the runners weren’t aligned properly, and the drawers would stick. Just install the runners step by step, don’t screw them in too tightly, and adjust them again at the end.

That makes a big difference! Don’t get discouraged, it will turn out great! ✌️
