Sijimmy3224 Feb 2024 18:07Hello everyone,
I am currently preparing to assemble an Ikea Pax wardrobe and would like to know which problems you most frequently encounter during the assembly process. I am especially interested in which assembly steps tend to be the most complicated, what difficulties may arise when adjusting the measurements, and if there are any particular pitfalls related to the fittings or the assembly instructions.
I already have some experience with furniture assembly, but I have noticed that some instructions can be unclear and some pre-drilled holes are poorly positioned. Additionally, I would appreciate any recommendations on how to avoid mistakes during assembly or how to make the process more efficient.
I would be very grateful for your detailed experiences and tips!

Hey Sijimmy32!
The Ikea Pax is a great system, but assembling it can be quite tricky—especially if it’s your first time! 😊 In my experience, there are a few common challenges:
- The instructions are sometimes a bit too minimalistic, so you need to think through some steps twice.
- The large number of individual parts can feel overwhelming, particularly if the fittings and screws aren’t sorted carefully from the start.
- A typical stumbling block is aligning the side panels during assembly; mistakes here often cause problems later on.
If you work systematically and take it step by step (don’t rush!), you can avoid many mistakes. Don’t get discouraged— the final result looks really great! Good luck with the assembly, and feel free to share how it goes!

I would like to add a few specific points to Sijimmy32’s question that I see as the most common sources of problems when assembling the Ikea Pax:
- The precision of the drill holes is not always perfect; sometimes screws cannot be countersunk as easily as the instructions suggest.
- Installing the back panel requires special care, as it ensures the cabinet’s stability. Mistakes here are often the cause of wobbly constructions.
- The assembly of the sliding doors is also critical, as the running tracks need to be adjusted precisely. Incorrect adjustment quickly leads to doors that hang or jam.
As a tip, I recommend dry-fitting all parts before the final assembly and carefully following the instructions step by step. This saves time and avoids frustration.
Having a helper can also make the assembly significantly easier, as many parts are difficult to balance alone.
I hope this helps!

The instructions are sometimes a bit too minimalistic, so you have to think through certain steps twice.I can confirm that, but it raises the question for me how much the minimalism is really the cause. In my opinion, it is more the inconsistent naming of parts and the lack of visualization that make assembly more difficult.

The alignment of the drill holes is not always optimalThat also applies to my experience. You need to work precisely, because if the drill holes do not line up exactly or are slightly offset, the final result will be unstable or there will be stress in the material, which could be problematic in the long run.
Furthermore, I think that for a system intended to be modular and durable, the material quality and the strength of the connectors could still be improved. The use of some very thin particle boards increases the risk of errors when drilling and screwing.
Finally, I would like to ask Sijimmy32 if you encountered any particularly problematic modules or accessories during your assembly? Some components seem to cause more difficulties than others.
