Good morning everyone, I am currently considering what the most common issues are with the Malm bed headboard from IKEA. I am especially interested in typical problems that occur after prolonged use – concerning both material quality and workmanship. Are there known weak points where, for example, the material cracks, discolors, or screws/connections fail? I would like to know if typical usage scenarios, like leaning against it or possibly incorrect cleaning, usually cause certain types of damage. Sharing experiences and tips for prevention or repair would also be greatly appreciated.

I think it’s good that the discussion here also includes how the building is used. Sometimes damage is not a quality issue but results from improper use.
I have often noticed that frequent or incorrect cleaning with harsh products can dissolve the surface and cause thin layers to peel off – making everything look old and porous quickly. Being a bit more careful with cleaning can really make a big difference.

In summary, the most common damages to the Malm bed headboard are primarily the following:
- Loose or missing screws due to movement and stress
- Chipped corners and edges, usually caused by bumping
- Scratches and superficial abrasions
- Discoloration from prolonged exposure to sunlight
- Damage caused by incorrect or harsh cleaning
Regularly tightening the screws and treating the headboard with care can help prevent many of these issues.
