Hello everyone, I am considering buying some furniture from the IKEA Brimnes series, especially beds with storage and dressers for the bedroom. Since I value long-lasting quality and plan to use the furniture intensively, my question is: What are your specific experiences with Brimnes furniture in long-term use over months or years? I am particularly interested in how durable the material is in everyday use, how stable the construction remains, and whether there are any typical weaknesses in the craftsmanship or fittings that buyers should be aware of before purchasing. Any tips on care and maintenance would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

How do you assess the repair options in case, for example, the foil peels off or gets damaged at a corner? That’s a good point. Minor damage to the foil can be fairly well concealed using special furniture repair kits designed for foil surfaces or plastic finishes. These usually include wax pastes or colored fillers that can be carefully worked into the affected area. For larger damage on edges or corners, however, I recommend repairing with suitable edge trims or corner protectors to prevent further peeling.

Are there any particular features of the drawers I should be aware of?The drawers have center rails underneath that prevent them from coming off the sliding track, which I find beneficial. Still, with frequent use, it’s advisable to maintain the metal rails regularly by applying a bit of silicone oil to keep them running smoothly.

Do you use the storage space under the bed often, and is it really sturdy?I use the storage space daily, mostly for seasonal clothing and blankets. The drawers are sturdy enough if they’re not overloaded—I would recommend a maximum of 20 kilograms (44 pounds) per drawer.
One aspect I often notice is the load-bearing capacity of the particle board used in Brimnes furniture. I recommend checking the packages for moisture damage before assembly, as the boards can swell when exposed to moisture. Otherwise, it helps to retighten all screws after about 6 months. The storage space under the bed is well designed but a bit thin-walled. For heavy loads, I would consider alternative supports.

Otherwise, it helps to retighten all screws after about 6 months. That’s good to know. Are there any recommendations for the best way to retighten the screws? Like a systematic approach to make sure nothing is missed? And have you sometimes experienced squeaking or creaking noises with Brimnes furniture? What’s the best way to fix those?

Are there any recommendations for the best way to retighten screws?I recommend following a consistent method when retightening: first, lightly tighten all visible screws, then retighten the connections in a crisscross pattern (i.e., diagonally opposite screws). Be careful not to overtighten to avoid damaging the material. A torque wrench is rarely necessary, but if in doubt, apply moderate force.

Do you sometimes also experience squeaking or creaking noises with Brimnes furniture?Yes, this can happen, usually at connection points. Applying an appropriate lubricant helps—silicone oil or dry Teflon sprays are suitable because they do not harm the surface finish. Occasionally retightening the screws also prevents these noises from developing.
