KenminHello everyone, I am currently assembling the IKEA Brimnes bedroom furniture set and encountering a few challenges that I assume others have experienced as well. Therefore, my question is: What practical tips and tricks are there to make the assembly of BRIMNES as smooth, quick, and safe as possible? I am especially looking for guidance on the optimal sequence of assembly, advice on handling the sometimes confusing instructions, and experiences on how to avoid mistakes in individual steps. I am also particularly interested in recommendations regarding tools, preparation, and how to make the often somewhat tricky fastening of the fittings more efficient. Thank you in advance for your feedback!
A few tips from my experience:
- First, lay out all parts and tools in an organized way.
- Read the entire instruction manual before you start.
- Work section by section, not randomly.
- Use a cordless drill with adjustable torque to avoid damaging the wooden dowels.
- Always tighten screws at the end, but don’t do it too early.
Common mistakes include mixing up parts, such as the back panel, so it’s better to double-check if unsure. Also, driving screws in before the part is properly positioned can cause rework.
My summary: Be patient and don’t rush the screwing process.

It helps to have pilot holes pre-drilled or at least lightly prepped with a small drill bit. This prevents the wood from splitting or the screws from being positioned at an angle.
Additionally, using a rubber mallet when inserting the wooden dowels is advisable to avoid damage.

For the fittings, I recommend screwing them in loosely first and tightening them properly only at the end. That makes sense. Have you encountered any situations where a different sequence should definitely be followed? And what tools do you specifically use for the screws— is a simple screwdriver sufficient, or do you recommend a cordless drill?
