Hello everyone, the screed has been in the house for 10 weeks now. The walls and screed still contain a lot of moisture that is evaporating. We have had the heating running for about 3 weeks. Even before the heating was turned on, we noticed these spots. Now they have appeared again in exactly the same places. What do you think about this? Condensation spots or moisture coming in from outside?

Hello Thorsten,

It is indeed common for a significant amount of water to be released within the first few weeks, which can sometimes become clearly visible in unexpected areas. This should generally subside after about 10 weeks. If noticeable damp damage rather than typical moisture issues appears now, building leaks should be suspected, especially considering the heavy rainfall over the past 1-2 weeks. This can only be determined through a detailed on-site inspection, including knowledge of the building structure, reviewing construction drawings or specifications, and if necessary, opening up parts of the building.

Leaks in the plumbing system are also certainly possible—whether the water comes from outside or inside.

I’ll keep this brief for now as I can write in detail only this evening.
We are using Ytong blocks. So far, everything has been very straightforward. The company we are building with is very popular here, and people always say good things about them :-( A few weeks ago, when the issue occurred, the site manager came and said it was condensation. Now it has appeared again, and I no longer believe it’s condensation :-( As I said, I’ll write again in the evening.

From my own experience: don’t worry too much — as hard as that may be. If the construction company is reputable and the issue is genuinely due to lack of waterproofing, they will fix it.
