Hello everyone! I want to insulate my 1963 older house using an external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS). I have an appointment with a company on Saturday and would like to prepare as well as possible. I would appreciate it if someone could answer a few questions, and I’d like to start with the plinth area.

The house does not have a basement and the terrain slopes.
1. Would you use two XPS boards of different thicknesses, as shown in the sketch, to compensate for the projection?
2. Usually, the insulation boards at the plinth are glued with a bitumen adhesive. Can this be applied on the old render and existing paint?
3. Should there be a rail or similar element between the XPS and EPS boards, or are these just butted together?

What is not visible in the sketch are the various waterproofing layers, such as the bitumen layer, then fully bonded with bitumen and, if applicable, an outer protective layer and dimpled membrane.
As part of my own work, I have already started digging a trench around the house and have been matching the modified and partially newly bricked window openings with plaster to the old render.

White plastered exterior wall with ground cracks, plants at the foundation, and hose on the concrete path.

Schematic foundation cross-section: concrete foundation, ground slab, EPS/XPS insulation and dimensions (30/15 cm).

On one side of the house, there used to be a baseboard, meaning there is no plaster there. Should this be compensated for when gluing with bitumen, or should cement plaster be applied there as well?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions and tips.
