Hello everyone,
we are about to pour the screed. Now the question is whether to install the waterproofing membrane or polyethylene sheeting. The screed thickness is 16cm (6 inches). Which option makes more sense?

We installed the Katja flooring ourselves in the basement; it’s not particularly difficult, you just need plenty of utility knife blades. Reason: the basement contractor recommended that we do it ourselves. It wasn’t a lot of work, and the costs were reasonable.

Was the foil not damaged by the workers (electrician/heating installer, etc.)? It is so thin...

You want to install a membrane for thermal insulation? That must be some impressive membrane...
Or am I missing something (condensation, etc.)?

Anyway. If someone told you that you will get 16cm (6.3 inches) of screed on top of the membrane / waterproofing layer, they most likely mean insulation plus screed.

I have seen that there is a foil with an aluminum layer. I assume this is also intended for thermal insulation. Please be kind to me;

•2: I have never built a house before

It’s not really thin and can withstand quite a bit.

That wasn’t the question; it’s just about whether torch-on vapor barrier or Katja foil is better. Today we installed the torch-on version. Thanks to you all!
