We are slowly planning to replace our old bed because it is no longer comfortable to sleep in. We have already read a lot about the advantages of waterbeds and box spring beds. We have looked at several options but are interested in hearing about personal experiences from owners of these types of beds.

We once had a waterbed. After we experienced a leak, I never wanted one again. Although the water was contained within the mattress, it was still quite a hassle to dry everything out.

This is also one of the reasons we never considered buying a waterbed. These Mesamaxx Aquaspring models do look nice and offer good comfort. But who wants to pay 1000 euros for a bed like this if the quality is supposed to be reliable.

Back pain with waterbeds always occurs when they are not filled correctly. The body sinks too much while lying down, causing a bent posture during sleep. I have created a consumer portal that summarizes the most important information about waterbeds and gel beds.

This is not a consumer portal but a sales platform; therefore, I have removed the link from your profile. Profiles must not be used for advertising purposes!

The combination of a box spring bed and a waterbed seems like an ideal solution to me. On one hand, you have the ease of getting in and out, and on the other hand, the comfort of the mattress. If the water mattress also contains damping fleece to reduce rocking back and forth and is filled according to body weight, nothing stands in the way of sweet dreams. However, these beds can be quite expensive.

OT:
A little anecdote on the side. I once told a colleague’s wife that she couldn’t use a waterbed because there was no water connection for hot and cold water in the bedroom. When she asked why such a connection would be necessary, I answered, well, hot water for winter and cold water for summer.
A few weeks later, we were out together and happened to pass a specialty bed store. She wanted to inquire about it, which was fine. After a while, the sales assistant came over and asked her what she was looking for, since she had been bending over and walking around the beds a lot.
Well, she told the salesman that she wanted to see where the water connections for the pipes were so she could have it properly installed at home.
Can you imagine the look on the salesman’s face? I kept quiet at that point. Still, the laughter was loud, and I had to put up with quite a bit of teasing.

What is the point of combining the two? These are simply two sensible measures that work well individually, but make no sense together... By the way, the stabilization of a water mattress is standard, and you can always choose how firm you want it to be.

We have a box spring bed. The height is important for us because we are both quite tall. Another advantage is that after a few years, you can replace the worn-out topper at a low cost and basically get a new bed.

The disadvantage compared to a regular bed is that individual mattresses are not as easy to replace. Also, the price for a decent box spring bed is not cheap. Below 2000€ (about $2200), you mostly find low-quality options that are not really comfortable to sleep on. Online prices are naturally cheaper, but without trying the bed first, it’s really not advisable to buy it.
