We are slowly planning to replace our old bed because it is no longer comfortable to sleep in. We have already read a lot about the advantages of waterbeds and box spring beds. We have looked at several options but are interested in hearing about personal experiences from owners of these types of beds.

But at least you get a nearly mite-free bed.....

Memory foam mattresses also do not provide a habitat for mites, and they offer a firmer feel for those who are suspicious of ‘the water thing.’
I also know people who gave up their water beds because of the maintenance effort...
Water beds are not the ultimate solution!

I have two small balls of fur, an old diva and a fairly young one with a lot of nonsense in its furry head. Could I consider getting a waterbed, or would you rather advise against it? I definitely won’t have my monsters’ claws trimmed or put caps on them.

Our furry monsters definitely didn’t cause any leaks in our waterbed, even though there were occasional chase scenes on it.

The mattress itself (which, after all, is made of thick plastic) is covered by a mattress cover. Usually, cat claws don’t penetrate even that.

Thank you, good to know

I could easily imagine a panther... but they do smell terribly, and when it comes to safety, I’m still a bit too cautious.

We are currently considering what kind of new bed to get, and I am also leaning towards a box spring bed. However, we have concerns about our sloped ceiling; our knee wall height is 1.10 meters (3 ft 7 in), and most box spring beds have a sleeping height of 53 to 65 cm (21 to 26 inches). Has anyone had experience with sloped ceilings and box spring beds?
