Good evening

There is always water standing on our garage roof. In my opinion, the drain is incorrectly positioned.

The architect and the structural builder say this is normal and not a defect.

However, my roofer sees it as problematic. He says mold can develop...

What is your opinion or recommendation?

Flat roof with green roof waterproofing, construction wood remnants at the edge, autumn trees in the background.

The roof waterproofing should go inside the pipe, not the other way around.

Well, this was during the construction phase. The first layer is a bitumen coat applied over bitumen membranes, followed by a separation fleece and then the light gray PVC sealing mats. The latter are also system-designed to fit into the pipe. The roof spout is a prefabricated part with a PVC rosette, which was joined to the PVC membranes using hot-air welding. So I think the sealing was done very thoroughly, and now no water passes through there anymore. I agree, however, that while this measure reduces the amount of water, if the membranes are not fully bonded, a small amount of water remains between the rubber membrane and the PVC membrane. That water probably never fully evaporates.

Alright, I’ll try my luck again and ask if he could set the spout 2 cm (1 inch) lower.

Best regards
