Hello dear friends of my favorite forum,

Since we have extremely hard water in our building area, I am wondering whether it would make sense to install some kind of water softener right from the start. There are various methods available, with their effectiveness being more or less verifiable. Has anyone had experience with this or even had such a system installed themselves? I would appreciate any help!

Why wouldn't resin/salt softening be suitable for an entire house?

I didn’t claim that. Bautraum 2015 asked what else is available. The softening (actually decarbonization) using a weakly acidic ion exchanger with resins, which are regenerated with salt, has already been discussed, so it doesn’t count as "else". 🙂

Ah, okay – misunderstood/read that incorrectly.

Hello,

I’d like to join this discussion.

Is hard water always associated with water containing limescale?

In my area, the water is extremely high in limescale, and I’m considering what can be done about it.

We are about to build our single-family house. In the basement, there will be a room for utility connections and the heating system, where I would prefer to install a system that treats the water before it is distributed throughout the entire house.

Does the system discussed on the first pages apply here, or should hardness and limescale be considered separately? If so, what is the best way to manage water with high limescale content?

Thanks and best regards

High lime content = hard water, low lime content = soft water

So, yes, this is what you want to discuss here.
