Hello dear friends of my favorite forum,
Since we have extremely hard water in our building area, I am wondering whether it would make sense to install some kind of water softener right from the start. There are various methods available, with their effectiveness being more or less verifiable. Has anyone had experience with this or even had such a system installed themselves? I would appreciate any help!

Of course, it is a private household, and no one will check it, but it still involves a food product.
And the costs are not insignificant – for our previous rental apartment, it was 350 euros, although the system was larger. But I would estimate at least 150 euros...
It is unfortunate that apparently professionals simply keep this information to themselves.

150€ over what period of time?

The manufacturers and the DIN standard require it – which may of course be in the interest of the industry that also helps set these standards, but after all, we are still talking about a food product here.
Try to explain why you find it unnecessary – maybe it will be convincing.

If it’s only about the hygiene aspect, you should start somewhere other than a water softener system. In my opinion, when properly designed and adjusted, these systems do not require annual maintenance. Some models even allow programming a forced regeneration cycle. This way, blockages are almost completely prevented. And let’s be honest, who actually follows all maintenance recommendations exactly?
