MoxmoeHello,
I would like to create a washing machine pedestal/frame as an Ikea hack using Metod cabinets Washing machine pedestal/frame build.
The idea is to place the cabinet directly on the floor and put a countertop on top (load distribution).
Would the Metod cabinet be able to support this?
My wife and I are both quite tall and want to be able to load the washing machine standing upright.
Alternatively, a 40cm (16 inch) wall cabinet with the protruding side panel leveled (sanded down).
Again, without legs, for stability.
The top drawer would then be used to place a laundry basket.
This could allow for two levels, similar to the example photo:

I also found an instruction manual from IKEA, but it is for a bed:

I have little to no experience with Ikea hacks, but I would be quite concerned that something might break eventually, especially during the spin cycle. For safety reasons, I would at least recommend the Ikea hack you suggested using a washing machine pedestal/base from Metod – there are also double pedestals available, possibly combined with a safety strap. Some come with a drawer, or you can cover them up.
I’ve given it some more thought.
The carcass is intended to support a work surface/wooden panel.
Anti-slip mats will be placed on the wooden panel to prevent the washing machine from moving on the pedestal and to dampen vibrations from the pedestal.
The carcass will include 1-2 narrow drawers, also to allow space for placing a laundry basket.
Additionally, a shelf will be installed inside the carcass; it won’t just rest loosely but will be screwed in from the outside to further stabilize the Metod cabinet.
That shouldn’t be a problem, right?

My layman’s opinion on this: It is risky. I wouldn’t do it. The actual weight of the washing machine rests on the base, not the structure (a refrigerator can also be placed on a Metod), but the vibrations can be extremely damaging to the construction. This problem even occurs with some washing machine pedestals or stands: over time, the connections loosen, and everything gives way during the next spin cycle.
