Good evening everyone,
since this forum has already been very helpful to me with 2-3 other topics, I’m curious about the following:

I built a raised platform from 12cm (5 inch) wide bricks where the dryer and washing machine will be placed later.

I originally wanted to pour the top slab myself, but somehow I’m not happy with that idea.
Can I instead use ordinary edging stones or kerb stones for the top?
Or does anyone have an inexpensive suggestion?

Not interested in formwork and mess? Or what don’t you like about it?
As shown in your link, it really looks ugly but is practical and inexpensive. You can always improve the appearance later (plastering, painting, tiling, whatever).

Precast lintels come to mind. However, they have standard dimensions, and cutting them to size could be problematic.

Everything in the picture above just looks ugly. We used a wooden board, and it has withstood all spinning cycles and so on for two years now. Just painted white, done.

Two white front-loading washing machines side by side, right one Miele, below a green crate.

As long as the weight is not supported solely by the panel but, as in your case, also rests on the bricks, it should work well. A thick plywood panel or something similar.

How does the sound behave with such a hollow space beneath the appliances? Doesn’t it cause a lot of noise or vibrations?

No, even though the kitchen shares a wall with the utility room, you can barely hear the machine spinning. That means we always check if the machine has finished or simply set an alarm on the oven clock ;-) I should add, the machine itself is not noisy. Also, our house is generally quiet, with music rarely playing during the day and no TV.
