Hello,
We are building a single-family house (basement, ground floor, upper floor). We have planned a utility room in the basement for the washing machine and dryer. However, I am considering relocating the washing machine and dryer to the upper floor. We have two bathrooms on the upper floor (one master and one children's bathroom). There is enough space in the children's bathroom, and the appliances could even be hidden behind a sliding door or a built-in cabinet. Where do you have your washing machine and dryer?

I don’t want to have the noise from my washing machine upstairs. That’s why it’s located in the basement. We have a laundry chute from the dressing room down to the laundry room. It is properly enclosed, so you can’t hear anything there. Our basement is within the regular thermal envelope, and I dry about half of the laundry in the dryer and the other half in that room. In summer, I’ve used a dehumidifier a few times, but the idea that the laundry wouldn’t dry quickly there is simply not true.

In our home, the laundry chute runs from the upstairs bathroom to the laundry room in the basement. It’s extremely convenient. Although it was a rather expensive investment, it pays off in the long run.
