aemkah77Hello everyone,
Since we are building with a developer, we are tied to a specific plumber – at least for the absolutely necessary sanitary fixtures like sinks, toilets, etc.
In the master bathroom, we will have two countertop basins on a vanity top. The current plan also includes a base cabinet costing a hefty 2500 € (around $2700). We would now like to remove this and only purchase the vanity top with the basins from the plumber. We want to buy the base cabinet separately from a different manufacturer than the one for the vanity top.
Our bathroom planner said that it is not so easy to install a base cabinet and vanity top from different manufacturers.
Is this statement correct? As a layperson, I don’t really see any problems with this.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Best regards

We have done this several times ourselves, both at our place and for the kids.
You take a countertop (I personally prefer 40mm (1.6 inch) multiplex plywood) and place it as needed—for example, on a strip or rail attached to one wall, and on the other wall we used a steel bracket from a metalworker for about €50.
At the sawmill where you get the board (hardware stores usually don’t have this), you can ask them to drill the necessary holes for the drain and water supply and slightly bevel the edges.
Then oil or paint the countertop—whatever you prefer—place the basin on top, and you’re done.
Afterward, you can attach any cabinets underneath the countertop or fix them to the wall at the back. Where should the problem be?
We have Ikea Godmorgen, the wide version, painted gray, which looks really nice in my opinion. All parts are affordable yet good quality. You can even screw a stainless steel towel rack to the side of the countertop, etc. It’s all no problem since it’s not chipboard.

As you described above, we are currently planning a wooden vanity from the sawmill for the guest bathroom.
Thanks for your replies!
