ᐅ Washable Carpets – Any Experiences with Teppana or Benuta?

Hi dear community, I have a question again:

Has anyone here had experience with Teppana, washable rugs, or Benuta or similar?

Background: We have a rug in our living area worth 1000€. It’s now quite worn. Not only because of a cleaning incident where the cleaner dripped on the rug and slightly faded the color, but also due to normal use in the seating area. So, it has to go. However, I don’t want to spend a similar amount again on something that needs to be replaced every eight years.

I’ve read a lot about washable rugs having issues like “wrinkles in the fabric,” and some photos show the somewhat flimsy material. Of course, thick pile rugs around a size of 200 x 300cm (79 x 118 inches) won’t fit in a washing machine drum. We do have a bathtub in the bathroom, which would be Plan B if the new rug is too large for the washing machine — but washability would definitely be the number one feature for the new rug.

What kind of rugs do you have, or what can you say about washable rugs?

P.S. I just took a look at Teppana as well. They even have 20mm (0.8 inch) plush carpets. Not bad. But for a 2x3m (6.5x9.8 ft) size—perfect for under my coffee table and the walking paths along the sofa—it still costs 500€ despite Black Week discounts.

The plush Mono Toffee carpet 🙂 What a nice name for nearly 500€, promising a lot. With an extra thick underlay, it’s 530€. By the way, the Black Week deals last until December... so if my cheap Otto carpet for around 75€ fails or I don’t like it, then some supporters here will have to share their experiences with Teppana. Yes, it’s all synthetic fibers, but there’s no alternative.

The carpet cleaning professionals really accomplish amazing work.
In 1993, I gave my wife (and myself) a very beautiful carpet for Christmas that seemed unreasonably expensive. This carpet was either under the dining table or in the living room area. It survived an active family life, withstood dogs and children, and lay for years along the main pathway through the living room to the terrace in our terraced house. Last year, I had it cleaned professionally and had a new piping installed. Now it is in my office and still brings a lot of joy, looks great, and feels good.
My conclusion: having it cleaned is worth it. Investing in high quality also pays off.

My personal experience with Teppana: we have one measuring 1.7 m x 2.4 m (5.6 ft x 7.9 ft). I have washed it before, and it just fit into the drum (although we only have a small washing machine with a 6 kg (13 lb) capacity). It can be easily placed on the underlay and removed again without slipping. We have the "thin" standard underlay; if I had to choose again, I would go for the thicker one. If the vacuum cleaner is used too aggressively, creases can appear, but these are relatively easy to smooth out. My mother-in-law also has Teppana rugs with the thicker underlay, and they feel comfortable to walk on. Of course, they cannot be compared to a thick, plush carpet. They are not very cheap, as already mentioned, but they are low-maintenance and come in a wide variety of sizes and designs. The quality is good overall. So, I would definitely recommend them with the above-mentioned considerations.
