Hello

It is a small house (about 20 m2 (215 sq ft)) and we are currently considering which walls to build. The first idea was to make everything from wood (timber frame with mineral wool insulation), but we are not sure.

Basically, it would be as follows: 12.5 mm (0.5 inch) drywall, vapor barrier, 10 cm (4 inches) insulation between the timber studs, ceiling membrane, counter battens 30 mm (1.2 inches) and rhombus cladding 20 mm (0.8 inches) (total approximately 165 mm (6.5 inches)).

Alternatively, maybe just 150 mm (6 inches) aerated concrete blocks + counter battens 30 mm (1.2 inches) + rhombus cladding 20 mm (0.8 inches) (total 200 mm (7.9 inches)), although I’m not really familiar with the U-values of aerated concrete.

Or is there a better alternative? The holiday home will only be used on weekends and heated with a wood stove in winter. Since we are somewhat limited in space, it is important that the exterior walls are as thin as possible. The costs of construction are also important. I believe aerated concrete might be somewhat faster to build than wood as well.

Thank you very much!

I would consider a log cabin for something like this. They are also available in thicknesses slightly greater than those of a sauna kit.

We need to stay there overnight over the weekend. That’s why I’m thinking of relatively well-insulated walls. With such thin walls, Ytong apparently doesn’t provide much insulation...
