Hello community, I have a question...
We are currently building a house and are in the final stages. Now it’s about the wall finishing. We plan to cover all walls with smooth paint-grade wallpaper and paint over it twice in white. Upstairs, the ceiling was installed with drywall and has been skim-coated. Now I was told that I could skip the paint-grade wallpaper on the drywall ceiling and that just painting would be sufficient.
What do you think? Can I honestly skip the tedious work? I would be very grateful for any tips!
Best regards

Make a secondary room, like the utility room, without it. Then you can see if it works well enough for you. KarstenBut it is most likely not on the upper floor.

Do you have any experience regarding the cost per square meter for Q2 to Q3 sanding, priming, applying painting fleece, and white painting? I am curious about the typical costs involved for a house, as we have not yet decided what to do. Only the lime-cement plaster at Q2 level is given, and ceilings are either concrete or drywall.
Sascha, a small tip. When the plastering crew arrives, which usually consists of two workers paid a fixed amount, they receive a set sum for the house regardless of how long it takes—your problem. The goal is to reach quality level Q2. So, when they come, be there, give each of them $50 or $100 if the house is very large, and tell them that we don’t want wallpapering, so please put in the effort and try to achieve close to quality level Q3. No matter what the cost per square meter of sanding is, it will never exceed 200. Karsten
For me, it’s like this: $7,000 for plastering all walls and ceilings in the 150 m² (1,615 sq ft) house in Q3. After that, fully apply painter’s fleece and paint with a matte white finish for $7,500. I recently awarded the contract to the provider with the most detailed quote, who is also regionally very close and already has experience with the clay aggregate walls to be treated. Hopefully, I can report back by the end of the year on how it turned out...
Assume that even with Q3, you will still need to do some sanding. We have Q2 plaster, but it has essentially reached Q3 quality. Smooth as a baby’s bottom, but you can still see where the workers wiped.
Various experts have explained to us that Q3 is suitable for wallpapering, while Q4 is suitable for painting.
We are putting up a simple non-woven wallpaper everywhere, and that’s sufficient.
