Hey,
I’m asking the community how you handled painting or wallpapering the 0.5 level.
I’d also appreciate some pictures to get a visual sense of how it looks. I’m a bit unsure about the best approach. Should the ceiling up to where the slope starts be painted white, or should the slope itself be white down to the knee wall? Or maybe keep that area white as well and only apply wallpaper (non-woven wallpaper) to the vertical walls.
Or, for example, paint everything white and have just one main wall with a color or patterned wallpaper.
I’m also curious how you designed the stairwell with a quarter-turn staircase. Did you paint or wallpaper the entire hallway and stairwell all the way up, or did you treat the upper hallway the same? Or did you just define the stairwell opening and use a different color or wallpaper above the horizontal stair railing to add some variation?
Thanks for your feedback!

You might want to try clay or clay-based paint, maybe mixed with a bit of straw or mica, depending on your preference. Every year, there are more plastering techniques that are easier to apply. If speed is a priority, a stylish wallpaper with a separable underlayer is a good option. Knee walls I find to be visually understated; painted in light colors or fitted with built-in cupboards, they appear discreet and functional. In my home, knee walls are painted the same color as the sloped ceiling sections above them.
In our new house, we only have three accent walls left. When it comes to just one wall instead of an entire room, the cost of wall finishing becomes pleasantly insignificant.
Enjoy your surface design!
