Hello everyone,
as you can see from the headline, within the last 24 hours a wall tile has cracked in our bathroom. It happened exactly where it meets the windowsill.
It looks really bad. The tile has cracked completely diagonally.
Our newly built house was completed last July, so we have lived here for less than a year. Very frustrating!
Has anyone experienced something like this? What rights do we have, and what is the construction company responsible for?
It is a turnkey new build, solid construction, on a slope. The crack is in the bathroom in the basement (our main bathroom). We did not do any work ourselves; everything was done by the builder.

chewbacca1236 Apr 2020 12:43Our site manager got in touch immediately and will be replaced free of charge. However, I cannot say whether this is a goodwill gesture or under warranty.

He clearly said that tiles cracking due to house settlement are not covered by the warranty. He would only replace such tiles for a fee. The same goes for peeling wallpaper on the ceiling if the house settles within the first 2-3 years.

I think that’s really harsh! Why harsh? That’s the current dilemma. Everyone wants to move in quickly, draw down the loan, the developer wants the money, and then move on. In the past, houses were allowed to "breathe." Now they must be occupied within 4 months. My contract also stated that hairline cracks up to XX millimeters (XX inches) are covered by the warranty. I also think that’s a tricky issue. Besides the tile, the window sill probably needs to be replaced too. This will be an expensive hassle.
