we are currently in the middle of planning our single-family house.
We wondered if a 17.5cm (7 inch) thick wall is wide enough to install a pocket door, or if a 24cm (9.5 inch) wall thickness is required for this?!?
The sliding door is meant to separate the kitchen area from the living/dining room.
Thank you in advance

Good morning.
Nice layout!
Looking at the plan, I would assume that the 175mm (7 inches) wall is load-bearing, so having a sliding door running within the wall probably won’t work. There would hardly be any wall thickness left on either side...
In timber frame construction, the walls are doubled up; I’m not sure how this is done with masonry, but your architect will know.
Good luck!

The guide rail is placed in between. I don’t know the exact thickness measurements.
We are also planning an internal sliding door. Therefore, the wall will have a thickness of 24 cm (9.5 inches). Our planner has designed it this way, and the structural calculations have already been made accordingly, so it should be fine.
In an earlier draft, we had not yet planned for a sliding door, and the wall in question was specified as 17.5 cm (7 inches) thick. It was changed to 24 cm (9.5 inches) because of the sliding door. However, I’m not sure if this increase is absolutely necessary.

How is this going to be constructed? Is a masonry wall built first, then plastered, and then another layer of bricks added? I can't really imagine how that works.
Best regards,
