Hello forum,

I am currently looking for the right wall construction for our house.

- The building is located near a railway line.
- It will have a brick veneer.

I am leaning towards autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) for the walls. However, from what I have read online, these are not very effective for sound insulation. I would like to hear your opinions on this, especially regarding a location close to a railway track.

My proposed wall assembly from outside to inside:

Outside air
10 cm (4 inches) brick veneer
2.4 cm (1 inch) air gap
6 cm (2.5 inches) insulation
26 cm (10 inches) autoclaved aerated concrete (if available in this thickness)
approximately 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) plaster
Inside air

So, what do you think about this?
What type of insulation would you recommend?
Should the interior walls be built with calcium silicate bricks to reduce noise transmission from adjacent rooms?

Thanks and regards
Rock

Of course not. Especially topics like sound insulation need to be planned consistently; focusing solely on wall constructions is simply unreasonable. It’s better to approach the whole issue holistically, consider it during planning, and if necessary, include the exterior landscaping in the planning as well. Anything else leads to poor results.

How is the proximity defined? 50 meters (165 feet) or perhaps 500 meters (1,640 feet)?
