Hello everyone,
We are finally back in the planning phase. A plot of land has been reserved.
We want to build a country house of about 180 m² (1,940 sq ft).
We are really just at the very beginning when it comes to the wall construction.
The first suggestion was 17.5 cm (7 inches) Poroton blocks plus insulation.
I think this is the cheapest construction method.
From what I have read so far, this might not be the best way to build.
What wall construction do you have and why?
What KfW standard have you achieved with it?
How satisfied are you with it?
I am also interested in experiences with walls insulated using styrofoam.
Thanks, Xinette

No, unfortunately no one can give you a simple answer like that... the house is not just made up of the wall. Which windows, which door, which roof, which foundation slab, which ceiling insulation?
Just roughly for the wall: 175mm (7 inches) calcium silicate brick, 160mm (6 inches) EPS (0.35 W/mK) -> 0.2 W/m²K > 0.204 W/m²K
Whether you really want to use EPS is something to consider—it’s a matter of preference.

I’m currently very interested in this topic!
We want to build a house this year. To qualify for the subsidies through the low-interest loan, we are aiming for KFW 70.
I have read a lot by now, but I am starting to reach the limits of my understanding when I see the many different values related to standards and lambda values.
Can someone tell me what exterior wall insulation/thickness with ETICS (polystyrene) and 17.5cm (7 inches) of sand-lime brick is necessary to easily meet the requirements?
Thanks in advanceFor example, we have 14cm (5.5 inches) of insulation. That’s how our construction company builds it, plus double glazing. Why and what U-values? No idea, we ordered KFW 70 and that’s what we get.
It will probably be the same for you later. You don’t have to demonstrate any engineering knowledge.
