Hello everyone,
As a non-expert in construction, I would like to get another opinion.
I purchased an apartment from a developer, which is currently nearing completion. Most of the painting work has already been done.
In one room, textured wallpaper was applied and painted. However, there is a visible gap running from the top to the bottom of the wall at one spot (see attached photos).
The painter refers to this gap as an "expansion joint between two different materials, which is technically necessary." I tend to see it as a defect since in an identical apartment one floor below, this gap is not visible.
What do you think?

It looks really bad and is already cracking.
What kind of different materials are these supposed to be? A drywall partition next to a masonry wall?
