Good evening,
for a long time, building a wooden house with an exposed beam ceiling / solid wood ceiling on the ground floor has been our "dream." The current cost situation and uncertainty (where/when can one get wood and so on?) have raised the question of whether an exposed beam wooden ceiling is also possible on the ground floor of a solid limestone masonry house.
a) Are these services that a carpenter can and is willing to provide?
b) What planning needs to be done in advance with the general contractor / house building company? Increase the ground floor ceiling height by 20-25 cm (8-10 inches)? Make openings?
c) Has anyone done something like this before, and if so, what costs can be expected?

Have a nice evening and many thanks

Of course, that's possible; the structural engineer will plan it accordingly. However, if a pure wooden house is your "dream," I would recommend double-checking the calculations before giving up on it, as many sectors are affected by the current price increases. At least at the moment, the price of timber is actually declining.

I would now request offers from several timber house builders, and then check back in 3 or 6 months. Projects are being put on hold at the moment because they are too expensive. This will give you a sense of when the right time is for you.

There is no reason to give up on a dream. When financing the house, try not to reach the maximum loan limit and include a buffer; this will help ensure everything goes smoothly. If you want a wooden house, you shouldn’t build a brick house—and of course, vice versa.

Thank you for your responses. We now have an offer from a local timber house builder, which is definitely too expensive for us. So, either wait or go for a solid construction.

As building novices often have quite naive ideas about the relationship between the visual appearance and the actual construction (and I also suspect that fulfilling this special request is more relevant in comfort areas than extending all the way into a guest bathroom and pantry), I suggest this: show some pictures of what you want it to look like, and then we can discuss how to build it.
When wishes and budget don’t seem to align, it isn’t always due to the facts. Because of insulation requirements, a real wooden beam ceiling today usually has no more than eight or ten centimeters (3 or 4 inches) of visible beam height—and if it is just for "decoration," a layperson probably won’t recognize it as such anyway—so why not just do it that way!
