Who has installed or is planning to install a system like this? Does it make you feel more secure? Can your cameras do more than just show images?

This is what it looks like for us after a series of burglaries in the neighborhood a few years ago.

Outside, there are five bullet cameras and one dome camera installed at the entrance. Inside the house, there are three more dome cameras.

Everything is connected via PoE. Inside, there is an NVR with enough storage capacity for about 14 days of continuous recording. However, the cameras are (of course) event-triggered and only record when movement appears in specific areas of the image. (Therefore, the NVR has never actually been full.)

The cameras have different resolutions depending on their installation location, ranging from 3 to 10 MP.

The affected camera can also trigger actions during prolonged movement or tampering. For example, turning lights on or flashing them, sending images via the internet, activating a siren, and so on.

I wouldn’t claim that this makes us live more securely, but it does make us feel calmer. Because you know that as long as no images come from your home, everything is fine.

How much did everything cost you in total?

Hello,

It’s interesting that you’re asking about this right now. I had already planned on installing surveillance, but since someone tried to break in at our place two days ago, I am now focusing on this issue.

I have ordered an 8MP camera from HikVision, which is powered via PoE. Integration into Edomi and the corresponding logic should be quite feasible.

However, only two cameras are planned, and I have already laid the necessary cables for them.

We also hope to achieve a greater sense of security with this setup.

Regards,
Christian

@FundS

Hmm no idea, 1-2 thousand. (Could post the MSRP, which would probably be 5 thousand, but I only had to pay a fraction of that)

@ONeill

I'm bored, so I thought about what else we could discuss... and look, it fits perfectly

Still in the planning stage, but I have definitely installed PoE everywhere I want cameras, meaning in the carport, the extension at the entrance area, two garden-side corners of the property covering the house and terraces, as well as a dome camera separately mounted under the roof overhang to cover the light well with the basement window. The simulation is already running in Edomi.

For the remote outdoor areas, two ioGeek bullet cameras will be used (they are completely black and hopefully discreet), and closer to the house, higher-quality equipment with a trigger input to connect a motion sensor (although this is actually unnecessary when combined with KNX, as I just realized). I’m also considering the Hikvision models.

Inside the house, I’m still unsure if I want cameras; for now, I’ll rely on presence detectors for indoor monitoring.

The downside of cameras is that they don’t prevent break-ins but at best improve suspect identification. However, I consider this more of a theoretical aspect. For me, the subjective feeling of increased security is enough.

That’s the plan.

You’re right about the first half of the sentence. As for the second half, I have to say that I review these videos myself. In most cases, they are night recordings with lots of noise and low resolution, sometimes mixed lighting from existing light and infrared. Unfortunately, they are not usable as court evidence.
Daylight recordings are better: pay attention to the right angle. They are often installed high up and capture downward, so I only see the top of the head. Usually, the real problem is the resolution; they look fine on a mobile phone but are not usable on our screens.

But your feeling of increased security is still a good thing [emoji106][emoji2]
