Hello,

we are wondering on which side of the door is the best option to install a video doorbell.
I have attached our floor plan of the entrance area.

There is the option to mount it either on the right side of the front door on the protrusion or on the left side next to the door on the wall.
Which option would you say is better?

A simple Ring, Nest, or Eufy doorbell is planned.

Netuser, was I correct in understanding that your suggestion was the blue dot?

Essentially, yes 🙂

Although the position at the green dot would still be much better than at the red dot. At least, that’s my humble opinion.

For me, the doorbell belongs right where the door opens, as close as possible. It’s simple: I ring the bell and then turn toward the entrance because that’s where I enter or expect someone to speak with.

Therefore: at the red dot.

Difficult,
I have the following concerns:

Red dot: too close to the front door, and perhaps a corner bracket should be used so that visitors stand further away from the door. Otherwise, the doorbell could hang quite far into the entrance path, and people might accidentally bump into it when passing by (this might be an exaggeration).

Green dot: on the wrong side of the front door, and this could be corrected with a corner bracket to have visitors stand centered in front of the door.

Blue dot: visitors might stand quite far away from the front door, and some could walk past the doorbell without noticing it or using it.

I would install it at the red spot because otherwise, I see the “risk” that the visitor rings the bell and then immediately moves to wait in front of the door, which would leave you looking into empty space.

I don’t find the green spot as good due to the door swing. For right-handed people, the right side is more convenient.

Battery power is a no-go for us because we don’t want to have to replace the battery, so only the wired version is an option. The doorbell should continue to use the existing acoustic chime so that we still have an audible chime in case of internet outage.

The battery doesn’t need to be replaced, only recharged via USB. Realistically, maybe every 6 months.

Some of the video doorbells you mentioned don’t require internet, only WiFi. And if that goes down, most likely the doorbell power is also out...

Don’t get me wrong, I just want to make it easier for you, speaking from my own experience.

Hmm, I don’t understand 🙂

The overhang is only 30 cm deep (12 inches). How is someone supposed to “move further in front of the door and then look into empty space”?

The red dot doesn’t make sense to me or at least seems to have more disadvantages than advantages.
If a visitor is standing in front of the door, the camera would only capture them from the side, and not very well at that!?
If there are other people standing further to the right, they wouldn’t be visible at all… Well.
