Hello,
I want to install a video doorbell and surveillance cameras for our new build.
Which video doorbell would you recommend?
It should send the video feed to the registered smartphones and have a normal indoor chime, with the possibility to add another chime upstairs if necessary.
The doorbell should definitely work without internet (of course, sending to the phone won’t work then).
There must be no monthly fees or subscriptions for the doorbell.
Which surveillance cameras would you recommend? Should the cameras and doorbell be from the same manufacturer so they can be integrated?
For example, a video doorbell at the front door plus a camera, so you can see both images when someone rings.
What system should we use? PoE (Power over Ethernet)?
We will install Unifi access points on each floor and one in the garden for the network.
For surveillance cameras, possibly one next to the front door as an addition to the video doorbell, one camera with a light for the driveway near the garage, and maybe another camera for the small path next to the garage.

The topic of Wi-Fi versus wired connections has already been discussed extensively here. Issues like susceptibility to interference and lower bandwidth are well known; a good Wi-Fi connection depends on many factors.
I really like 2N, but it either integrates into visualizations or its own displays. If you want to use Alexa or similar, you’re limited to cloud-based solutions, and in this area, Doorbird is not bad. Your idea of “not being overly connected to a cloud” doesn’t really exist. It’s either cloud-based or not at all. The fact that the camera also stores images locally doesn’t matter. If your Alexa shows an image, the pictures naturally pass through several servers before reaching it. Are you aware that with eufy, Alexas don’t automatically display the door camera image when someone rings?

I’m not a big fan of 2N because of the strange licensing system and the fact that you have to pay a monthly fee for mobile notifications or video when someone rings (yes, Ring also has this, but it’s optional).
Question about Doorbird: do you know how long it takes for the video to appear?
Does the standard door chime still work with Doorbird, or do you have to use the one from Doorbird? And does the chime work without internet?
Doorbird definitely offers a free cloud service where you can always receive the video on your phone.

Doorbird definitely offers a free cloud service so you always receive the video on your phone. We are planning to try the eufy Security Video Doorbell Dual Camera. Does anyone know if it can be easily installed on the concrete pillar in front of the driveway, or are there privacy regulations against this since it would record when detecting motion?

A (surveillance) camera must not even give the impression that it is monitoring neighboring or public properties. But: where there is no plaintiff... In the end, you are the plaintiff, because as the property owner, you will want to use the video recordings as evidence (for burglary or anything else). Otherwise, there would be no need for recordings at all. If the footage shows more than it is allowed to, the evidence can be dismissed as inadmissible, and the camera/recording will have been of no use to you.

I was thinking more the other way around—if someone objects to the installation of the camera and takes you to court because of it.
But in this case you are, of course, right... except maybe if you know who the intruder was and the court still carries out a balancing of interests (which often happens when illegally used dashcams record serious accidents and the footage is ultimately allowed to be used).
