Hello,
I want to install a video doorbell and surveillance cameras for our new build.
Which video doorbell would you recommend?
It should send the video feed to the registered smartphones and have a normal indoor chime, with the possibility to add another chime upstairs if necessary.
The doorbell should definitely work without internet (of course, sending to the phone won’t work then).
There must be no monthly fees or subscriptions for the doorbell.
Which surveillance cameras would you recommend? Should the cameras and doorbell be from the same manufacturer so they can be integrated?
For example, a video doorbell at the front door plus a camera, so you can see both images when someone rings.
What system should we use? PoE (Power over Ethernet)?
We will install Unifi access points on each floor and one in the garden for the network.
For surveillance cameras, possibly one next to the front door as an addition to the video doorbell, one camera with a light for the driveway near the garage, and maybe another camera for the small path next to the garage.

we finally had the appointment with our electrician
in the meantime, we have also decided on an ekey system
Front door: triple automatic lock (mechanical locking) with A-opener
ekey: we want the new ekey xLine mounted on the house facade
Video doorbell: The electrician recommended the Ring doorbell from Amazon
he says the Ring works reliably and without issues, and it is also very affordable
He asked whether we should have a CAT cable installed for the video doorbell (the electrician charges 250€ per CAT cable) or if a standard 2-wire doorbell cable is enough to connect a Wi-Fi cloud doorbell?
What should we do about the door chime? Should another cable be installed there as well, or is just the 2-wire doorbell cable sufficient?

Gartenfreund22 Jul 2022 07:07I wouldn’t buy something like that.
I have always felt uneasy about systems that connect to the internet and transmit videos, for example.
A recent report mentioned that Amazon handed over recordings to the police without a court order. OK, this happened in the USA, but it still shows that ultimately everything seen by the camera is stored by Amazon. This means the company also knows when the postman rings twice, when visitors come, and so on.
As I said, I wouldn’t get anything unless I have 100% full control over the footage. This is also to protect the privacy of anyone visiting me.

For example, the eufy stores the images locally on a storage device.
Right now, my main concern is choosing the right type of doorbell (I mentioned Ring because everyone knows it and understands what I mean).
We definitely want to have a video doorbell.
Would you go with a Wi-Fi doorbell, which has the advantage of being very affordable,
or does it really need to be a PoE doorbell?

Pwnage61922 Jul 2022 10:53Why always use a hardwired connection if the Wi-Fi signal is strong enough at the front door?
Which hardwired doorbell would you recommend?
What do you think of Doorbird?
Our problem is:
We don’t have space for a proper indoor station (a sensible place to mount it).
Later on, we want a small wireless smart home system—just to control roller shutters, some lights, and sockets with simple rules or via smartphone and voice commands using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant (possibly Siri if we switch to iPhone in the future, but that’s not planned right now).
We would like to use Amazon or Google displays as the indoor station.
