Hello everyone,

I am currently considering which video door entry system to buy for our single-family house on a hillside.
I find the video feature very useful since our living and dining area is located in the basement, so you don’t have to go upstairs every time the doorbell rings.

There are many versions on the market, and unfortunately, they vary significantly in price.
Do you have any recommendations on which ones to buy?
What do you think about this one?

Hi Andreas.
Your concerns are certainly understandable. Overall, I think Gira’s system is very good, but quite expensive.
I am looking for an intercom system with a camera function. I would like to have two monitors inside the house—one for each floor.
We probably want to integrate the fingerprint scanner directly into the door or the door handle. Therefore, this function doesn’t need to be controlled through the Gira system or any other system.
Why did you choose Gira, or was there no alternative for you despite the price?

Which system did you install, Uwe?
And what are the advantages of your system? It’s really difficult to find the right solution without throwing money away or saving in the wrong places...

Gira, because our electrician has a lot of experience with it. We are now paying about 800 € for a Gira intercom system with a fingerprint module. Without the fingerprint, it would have been under 400 €.

We completely omitted camera and monitor.

With all these "new" suppliers, it’s nice that they offer certain functions for less money, but will I still be able to get spare parts in a few years?

You can easily implement the camera via (W)LAN and a NAS (which almost everyone probably already has). That also avoids security issues.

There will always be someone who could theoretically hack my LAN/WLAN. But then the front door shouldn’t also be opened with just the push of a button.

A regular burglar won’t do that anyway—they prefer to pry open a window.

Best regards,

Andreas

I installed the IP Helios Verso from 2N. The advantage was the easy integration with the FritzBox, mobile phone (via Wi-Fi), and the home automation system. With the home automation app, I can answer the doorbell, see the visitor, speak to them, and even open the door.

Additionally, the device offers many other features. For example, we installed the keypad, which allows me to set time-controlled access codes (for instance, for cat care during holiday periods). It also supports web services that let me integrate various other systems.

We have now purchased a system from Anthell Electronics with video and fingerprint features.
I’m curious to see how it performs once it is installed.

Hi Bortel.
Let me know when the time comes.
On one hand, I also tend to favor Gira or Busch and Jäger since spare parts are usually always available for these devices, but on the other hand, they do charge quite a bit for that...
