Hello everyone,

I am currently considering which video door entry system to buy for our single-family house on a hillside.
I find the video feature very useful since our living and dining area is located in the basement, so you don’t have to go upstairs every time the doorbell rings.

There are many versions on the market, and unfortunately, they vary significantly in price.
Do you have any recommendations on which ones to buy?
What do you think about this one?

Hello,

I don’t really understand the "fear"!

We will handle this the "old-fashioned" way:

Next to the front door there will be a strip of windows, and the front door will have a latch bar. You can see who is standing outside the door. With the latch bar, you don’t have to open the door right away but can first open it just a little.

Best regards, Barossi

Is there such a thing???
Even the mail carrier has the right to their own image!

Video surveillance on private property is generally unproblematic. Google directly lists the necessary requirements, if needed.
Issues only arise if public pathways are captured or if a neighbor has reason to fear that their property might be filmed. Even then, it can be allowed if the operator’s need is considered more important.
If a conflict is anticipated, it’s best to proactively talk to neighbors, explain the camera’s purpose, maybe show the recorded image, etc., and place a notice sign at the front gate.

The camera always needs a cable. Either a power cable plus Wi-Fi (which is inconvenient), or a network cable with PoE (Power over Ethernet) at the switch or via an injector, which saves the power cable. An outdoor outlet at a suitable place would be useful for this.
That way, the video feed is available on the network. The rest is just software. Whether it’s an iPad app or something else is no longer important.
Or a doorbell system with everything integrated. But that will cost a lot.

I will probably get the VDV610 + VDV507. Everything else is just too expensive and overkill for my simple applications.

I also had this here and returned it without even connecting it. I find the quality of the housing terrible. We will be installing a 2N IP Verso soon.

oh, I have now seen several pictures and it looked quite good.
The 2N IP Verso is relatively expensive at just under 1000€ (about $1100), in my opinion.

Hello,
I was also looking into this and wanted to have a keyless entry system. It quickly became quite limited...

I find Doorbird quite interesting and also affordable.

I also looked at DoorBird, but the problem with it is that the IP traffic doesn’t stay local on your home network; everything goes through Doorbird’s servers. This means that if someone hacks their servers (and yes, they can be hacked, just like any others!!) someone could unlock every front door worldwide connected to a DoorBird device with the push of a button. That is a complete no-go and absolutely unacceptable!

Best regards,

Andreas
