Hello, today I had to wait for an hour and only had my notebook with me... so I just doodled a bit.

This is my very first draft of the ground floor, and it probably still has quite a few mistakes.

What I’m curious about is whether there are any major errors here (for example, the staircase?).

North is at the bottom right.

One square represents half a meter (0.5 m / 20 inches).

You don’t need a light well or an expensive basement living area if you have a nice guest room or office on the ground floor or upper floor.
Or the option to keep the living room closed off.
Men can watch sports in the closed living room while the lady relaxes comfortably on the sofa in the guest room.
Conversely, tea parties and cooking gadget evenings can take place in the kitchen-living area, while the husband stays in the living room, office/guest room, or with a child. I take the opportunity to shop for clothes online, and my husband takes the opportunity to visit others.
In many families, the guest room is the coziest room if kept tidy.

Do it the way you want, but I realized months ago that you seem to be going around in circles: first like this, then like that, then the stairs, then the pantry... Are you by any chance a Cancer?
You start everywhere, find no solution, and prepare a new problem, because you’re indecisive and... forgive me... overwhelmed.
...You wait to see what the report says and want to build contrary to the recommendation. Then you shouldn’t have waited [emoji848]

Wasn’t there something about adding 1.5 meters (5 feet) of fill?
Tomorrow you’ll change your mind because building higher than the natural ground level means stairs to the garden, stairs into the house...

What does the room layout look like: how much area can/must go to the upper floor and how much to the ground floor? The office/guest room is planned for the ground floor as far as I remember.

There are people who postpone things they don’t want to face. Are you sure you want to build? Or maybe not? [emoji848]

Since I’m the one who mentioned the light well: I completely agree with you. If the guest room is above ground, I would always prefer that too!

My point was only that IF such a room has to be placed in the basement and you plan to spend time there during the day, a simple light shaft for living purposes is probably not enough; a light well can significantly improve the living quality—and that is the case with us.

So no contradiction, just an addition [emoji6]

Absolutely. Fundamentally, light wells are great. From my childhood, I remember one that was so large it provided barrier-free access from a room with a panoramic window to the garden on the ground floor. A wonderful atmosphere. But to have this one retreat option in a basement, and to justify the basement solely because of that, I think is the wrong approach.
