Hello everyone,
the garage is built, and now I have a question about vertical waterproofing at the base. Is it necessary for this garage (see picture)? There will be no backfilling, but paving will be done right up to the garage. On the sides without paving, there will be no soil fill, only gravel at most.
Does this area need waterproofing, and if so, what type? Bitumen primer? Waterproof slurry?
Thank you very much

Why should anything be sealed here?So nothing needs to be sealed?
Now I’m confused.
Because damp masonry has a shorter lifespan and reduces the usable interior space. Naturally, the perimeter area needs to be waterproofed (30cm (12 inches)? I’m not sure). Bitumen is also applied under the first row of blocks. Likewise, the concrete slab is coated with bitumen and has a torch-on membrane applied on top.
There will be moisture on the base of the wall from rain or snow. Therefore, a slurry coat is applied on the stone up to about 30 cm (12 inches) above ground level. Above this, plaster is applied. This takes about 60 minutes of work and costs around 12 euros in materials. Why skip this step?

There will also be a bitumen layer under the first course of bricks. Likewise, the slab is coated with bitumen and has a waterproof membrane applied on top. But the slab can also be made of waterproof concrete, right? I’ve never seen anything applied on top of it.
And usually, isn’t the base waterproofing done by the plasterer during the base coat application?
