Hello everyone,

the garage is built, and now I have a question about vertical waterproofing at the base. Is it necessary for this garage (see picture)? There will be no backfilling, but paving will be done right up to the garage. On the sides without paving, there will be no soil fill, only gravel at most.

Does this area need waterproofing, and if so, what type? Bitumen primer? Waterproof slurry?

Thank you very much

Yes, definitely. Why not?

I would follow the foundation guidelines.

I would follow the base plate guideline.

What does that mean?

Waterproofing slurry? Or bituminous primer? How high does the waterproofing need to go?

Thanks

So, height by feel, better to have more than to be too tight. Apply waterproof slurry on top. Two coats. Then it’s fine.

Could someone explain to me, as a layperson, whether sealing slurry or bituminous thick coating is the preferred solution here? I have no prior experience with either.

Well, there won’t be any hydrostatic pressure. A slurry coating will be sufficient. I would use bitumen for basement walls and similar areas. Slurry is inexpensive and easy to apply.
