Hello,

I have the ventilation plan for my controlled residential ventilation system, and the following:

The manufacturer/designer suggests routing the supply air ducts (75mm (3 inches)) inside the walls on the upper floor, where the wall thickness is only 10cm (4 inches)?
My main contractor, however, proposes installing the supply air ducts (flat ducts 55mm (2 inches)) within the exterior masonry (Poroton T9 36.5cm (14.4 inches)).

In my opinion, interior walls are not suitable at all. For exterior walls... doesn’t that weaken the outer wall (sound insulation, thermal insulation, etc.)?

On the ground floor, I will have ceiling outlets, but I find their placement in the corners of the living room (potential seating areas) a bit problematic. However, I don’t see any alternatives here.

I would be very grateful for any suggestions or advice!

Thank you!

Excuse me? What do you mean? I assume you are asking whether a 7.5 cm (3 inch) ventilation duct can be installed within an 11 cm (4.3 inch) thick wall.
Definitely not, that’s not possible!
According to my expert’s assessment, no installations at all should be embedded in 11 cm (4.3 inch) thick walls, apart from electrical wiring and sockets.

Best regards,

It surprises me and also my general contractor that this came as a suggestion from a well-known manufacturer and planner. What is your opinion on using exterior walls as an alternative?
